A Digital Signature is an electronic signature that can be used to authenticate the identity of the signer of a document. 

A digital signature issued by the licensed certifying authority means a person who has been granted a license to issue a DSC under Section 24 of the Indian IT Act 2000.

All STOs/DTOs will start to procure the DSC from their respective NIC units after the Central TB Division has issued the directive.

Before DSC procurement, DSC applicants must fill out the DSC form and submit it to any NIC authorization agency.

The form covers the following information:

  • Category of the applicant
  • Project Code
  • Class of Certificate Required
  • Certificate Required
  • Certificate Validity
  • Date of Superannuation
  • Name
  • Designation
  • E-mail-id
  • Ministry/Department
  • Office Address
  • Residential Address
  • Identification Details
  • Certificate Subject Details - Only for PAN-enabled DSC.
  • SSL/Web Server Details
  • System Certificate Details
  • Payment Details

After filling in all the form details, the DSC applicant shall submit the form along with supporting documents and self-attested copies to the NIC unit. 

After submission of the form to the NIC unit, the NIC unit will verify the form and issue the DSC. If all the particulars are in order, a user-id, password and profile will be created.

A letter/certificate is issued by the bank containing the DSC applicant's information to be kept in the bank database. The letter/certificate should be certified by a Bank Manager.

Some crucial information:

  • In case of loss/compromise of DSC applicant should immediately inform the NIC-CA office either by phone at 011-24366176 or email at casupport@nic.in or send an online revocation request via member login from https://nicca.nic.in 
  • It is very important & legally binding to keep the private key securely.
  • The email id of the DSC applicant should be functional, and the applicant should access the same regularly as all DSC regarding communication.
  • The DSC applicant must be careful while entering the DSC pin, as repeated incorrect entries shall block the same.
